Default Aux input (not iPod) for standard stereo on 2005/2006 Prius

I'm on the waiting list and expecting to get a 2006 Prius come January, and working out options on the car stereo front. Since all the info right now is on 2005 models, I'm working from that, knowing that some things will change in 2006 models.

In my current car I have a Jensen MP3510 which is mostly used to play CDs of MP3s, and sometimes the aux input for my non-iPod MP3 player.

I'm not planning to get the 6-CD changer; don't use actual CDs anymore (they were all ripped and put into storage years ago). The basic system seems perfectly adequate to my needs except for the lack of an aux input, though not being able to use my MP3-CDs will be disappointing, but using steering wheel and touchscreen controls will be nice, so it's a tradeoff. Also don't plan to get the navigation system.

Considering my options and having a hard time finding solid answers:
  • Move the Jensen MP3510 into the Prius: is this even possible? What will it likely cost me? Not much chance of using the external controls (found a system that does this for first-generation Prii, but not current models).[/*:m:1qe60t89]
  • Add a simple auxiliary input jack to the Prius: almost every such thing I find for Toyotas is not compatible with the Prius. Is there a simple one out there that is, and doesn't cost too much? When a cassette adapter is $10, seems silly to spend $90 for the same functionality.[/*:m:1qe60t89]
  • FM transmitter: I tried this once and found it unacceptable.[/*:m:1qe60t89]
  • Other: are there any other options?[/*:m:1qe60t89]

I almost wish they'd give me the old cassette system just for the ease of connecting it to an external input. Though adding MP3-CD support and a simple aux jack to the basic model would put me in heaven.

Edit: another thread suggests that the 2006 stereos will add exactly these two things, even the base systems! If so, this question is moot, and I'm an even happier camper!

Default A couple of sources

Coastal Electronic Technologies: http://www.coastaletech.com/04prius.htm
I'm thinking about getting the ViewTech myself, and later installing a backup camera, though I heard that is an option on the '06

Sigma Automotive: http://sigmaautomotive.com/jdm/prius/prius0405.php

FWIW, I'm planning on adding a low power PC and a touch screen, so I can add a GPS in (for 1/3 the price premium of package 6)

Default I think it's already in 06.

Here's a list of the 06 options and backup-camera, Aux-in, MP3 are all listed.

Has anyone actually ordered from sigmaautomotive before? If so please let me know how they are and if they have a phone number. I'm worried about legitimacy of this business without phone # listed.
Also, has anyone ordered the Aux input from them? If so how easy was it to install in the prius.
Thanks

Sigmaautomotive was great (friendly personal service). Good price $107 for RCA input (PAC Aux-Box). I got the unit 2 days after I ordered it. Much better than Coastal Dave. I followed this great detailed install instruction from Chris Dragon: http://www.chrisdragon.com/downloads/St ... 0v1.03.pdf
Good pictures and install is very involved but it took me only an hour because of the easy instruction. I would not try to do the installation without downloading this info. The unit works with any MP3 player and comes up as cd changer as you scroll through source.

I downloaded those instructions. This sounds... complicated.

Has anyone else has experience or success installing an AUX input?

I try to order mudflaps from Coastal but after I clicked with my credit card, I did not get any email confirmation. A week later. I try to call, left messages and got no reply. I waited 2 week and go nothing and my credit card was not charged so I order the same thing from Sigma (it was also $10 cheaper.) I got my an email confirmation right after I clicked and got my mudflaps in 1 week. Then 2 weeks later I notice that my credit card has been charged by Coastal. I was about to call the credit card company and guess what, the mudflaps from coastal came the next day. I really hate to think what I'll have to go through to return the one from coastal but fortunately a colleague of mine will buy my extra set from me. I will never order from Coastal again but definitely from Sigma.

Who needs a phone number when the number gets not one on the other side? I rather get an immediate email confirmation after I clicked with my credit card. Anyway, if you look at the credit card statement, there's always a phone number attached to that transaction. Sigma may not have listed their phone number one their web site but they certainly delivered fast.

There is a much easier way to get to the back of the radio.
Check out Craig's instructions.

I just got an XM radio unit from circuit city with an aux input. i've got it hard wired to the antenna. i was worried this would Compromise quality, create static and that sort of thing, but the quality is great and the ipod plays well through it. Only problem is you canít interface with it via the steering wheel or the computer screen beyond volume adjustment. That said, Iím completely happy with it and think the stock speakers in the car are fine given that Iím not thumpiní da bass playing vivaldi etc.

Hey pete, what's up with the PDF icon not showing up?
https://www.priusonline.com/images/pdf.gif does not exist from the internet's point of view. Anything else in the images folder that won't show up if used?
