Default New Users / SPAM

I have made it more difficult for new users to register to hopefully cut down on some of the recent SPAM. If anyone has trouble registering please let me know. (this should not effect existing memebers at all)

Thanks Jeff. Hopefully we can get some of the old users back. SPAM has really killed this board.

Hi, Jeff,

I second what firepa63 says. That's really great news, finally!! Whether that was you, Pete, or Jerome doing the 3 major cleanouts in the last week, a BIG THANK YOU to whichever one (or more) it was. As you noticed, it was just way to easy for anybody to get in here & start spamming in the past. I hope whatever you have done is the solution (or at least a big first step) to eliminating all the spam we've had in the last couple of months.

Now the big job remaining is to somehow get the word out to some of the members [who have recently quit this site (because of all the spam)] that things are going to be better (because of whatever it is that you have done) & to please come on back. Just look at some of the threads regarding the spam & see the names of the ones who have said "I'm out of here". We used to have such a wealth of knowledge & contributors here, but so many of them have bailed on us because of the recent spam. I hope it's not too late to get all of them back.

If the spam levels stay way down (or become wonderfully non-existant) for a while because of your tweaking the registration process, then I might even consider contacting them by individual PM's (unless you have a better method) to tell them of the great news. I'm not good with computers, so is there a way to do a group PM or some other easy way to get the word out to all of them at once? If you know of an easy way & can do it yourself, then please let me know if it has been done so I don't waste my time doing each one individually & end up repeating your work. Thank you.

One last thing out of curiosity : Do you & Pete work together? You both have the title of site administrator & have the same address of Endicott, NY.

ATTENTION!!!
P.S. It's 11:42 AM & the new registration process may not be doing the job Jeff & we want it to. Just check the latest thread (11:11 AM) in the "Help" topic. It seems a Russian "Koldans" with no profile has already gotten in & done one spam post. He may have done it as a guest because you can't even click on his name. I reported it already.

This looks better already, to me. -- I'm not a fan of big government, but I wish they could do something about the viruses and spam.

Glad to see that someone is finally doing something about this. It has been really disappointing and frustrating this past few weeks.
