Default Garmin Nuvi GPS

I just replaced my Garmin Quest 2 with a Nuvi. Although more expensive (lower end price $725 on ebay to $900 elsewhere), it's by far the best portable I've seen. The great thing about portable GPS units is that if you don't like a model you bought and can't return it, you can usually sell it on eBay for around $50 less than you paid for it (sometimes even closer to your purchase price.) That's where my Quest went and I moved on.

Anyone thinking about going the portable route should at least consider the Nuvi. VERY simple to operate. Touch screen. Very sharp video. My Nuvi is for our other cars as we have the Prius NAV in our package.

As to mounting a portable, most come with some kind of vacuum bracket that attaches to the windshield which is fine in most cases. However, if you don't like your windshield vision blocked, some kind of dashboard arrangement will be necessary.

IF I were going to go the dashboard route, http://www.proclipusa.com has some interesting mounting options. The picture below shows their Prius mount. If I didn't have the NAV option in my Prius, I would probably spring for this. I am ordering their mount for my Mustang.
