Default Colors

Is it possible to have custom colors when ordering a new Prius or are we restricted to the six or seven colors in the brochure?
I have seen some lemon yellow, light blue and sage green Prius in my local area but none of these colors appear in the latest brochure. Were these colors offered on earlier models?

The Prius is in such high demand now that you may not even get the color you want from the brochure. As for custom colors, no.

Hey, Waverider,

You don't have your location in your post or say what body style Prius you're talk'g about, but most likely the yellow Prius you saw is an ex-taxi. The sage green you describe may be the Tideland Pearl (a mostly gray metalic with a slight hint of green in the right light) that was available in 2004, 2005, & I think also in the early part of 2006 (before it was replaced by the darker Magnetic Gray). I'm not sure what you mean by light blue. The Seaside Pearl color has been around since 2004 & is still in the 2008 brochure (although much lighter than the Spectra Blue Metalic). Anything lighter blue than the Seaside Pearl is either a complete re-paint of a "2G" (2004-200 or one of the original colors if you're talk'g about a smaller Echo-style 2001-2003 Prius "Classic".

But no custom colors from the factory for the Prius when order'g from Toyota (just those colors in the brochure). Actually you don't order your car from Toyota to be delivered to your dealer for you. You only tell the dealer your preference of interior/exterior colors & option pkg's, & from their allocations the dealer tries to match (what he has already been assigned) to you & the others on his list in the order that everybody signed up. Since the 12 Toyota regions in the USA independantly govern what colors & option pkg's the dealers in their region will be allowed, you may have to go outside your region to get a specific color or option pkg you want.

Some dealers may be willing to work a swap for you with another dealer, but this also adds extra time to your wait while the dealers negotiate what each one wants in return. This is usually not a physical swap of cars being driven to each dealership, but only a computer swap (with the originally assigned dealer's approval) of the cars while they're still on the boat from Japan or after they touch down on land but before they've been processed at the port. It's a fairly simple process, but a lot of dealers don't want to even bother doing it because the cars just about hop off the lot as soon as they get unloaded off the trucks.
