License Plate Rearview Camera vs. Hatch Release Handle

Just wondering if anyone else has installed a rearview camera that is an integral part of the license plate frame. Of course Coastal Dave sells one so it must be "workable". I got mine from another vendor since I'm part of the CoastalEtech boycott but it looks almost identical.

The question is once mounted it appears to block the access to the "button" that unlocks and opens the hatch.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance...

Hi looking for more info on mounting my STARVISION 450. Where can I find info on the one you're referring to? This one requires a 1 inch diameter hole. Wonder if you can legally drill a hole in the license plate itself?

I got mine through http://www.simplycheap.com. The camera is the Mito 20-LP100. I ended up removing the camera from the "chrome" license plate frame (it was made of plastic) and mounting it just beneath the OEM location (where that removable tab is on the driver's side of the trim above the license plate).

Everything about the installation is fine esthetically speaking. I've still got issues with the image being "snowy". I'm returning to Circuit City tomorrow for a followup appointment.

(see attachment for mounting location and look)

Thanks for the quick reply. Seems I saw a bunch of pics on removing all the hatchback trim a while back. Was that your post? Did you have any trouble with the routing?

I think it was someone else that posted the pics but I did have a post asking about the interior trim removal. I was attempting to add a "third brake light" flash component that needed to be tied into the circuit right near the "3rd B. L." location.

The camera involved removing the exterior hatch trim piece and then running the wiring for the camera around the left side of the rear window, up through the rubber grommet containing the rear washer fluid tubing and across the roof line just above the drivers' side doors. That meant removing the black gasket material at the top of the door openings.

That's about all I know since I paid to have Circuit City do the job and only caught glimpses of the procedure.

Hope that helps... :)
