I heard that the Japan Prius has LED exterior lighting to reduce electrical draw, while the US versions have incandescent bulbs. Has anyone out there attempted to make the change to LED's? Did it work out OK?
The brake lights on the US version are LED. The parking lights, turn signals, and backup lights are incandescent. I am personally not aware of any other configurations. Anyone else?
You also forgot the rear lisence plate lights (two of them). The lights that are on while night driving are 5W lights (frt park, rear tail, and lisence plate). The intermittent incandescent lamps are 21W (frt & rr turn and reverse), while the brake lamps are LED.
I wonder how significant performance may increase by reducing approximately 30W draw by replacing the 5W lamps. I doubt it's significant, but every little bit counts when you're squeezing for improvements from an already efficient vehicle.
Having the HID headlamps helps, as it uses less energy than the standard halogen bulbs.
