Default Honda is searching for Insight Pioneers

In a nutshell:

Honda is searching world wide the the Insight driver who has covered the most distance with an Insight. The "Km King" will receive a brand new Civic Hybrid in exchange for his Insight, provided more than 160,000Km has been covered. Honda wants to underline the durablility and potential savings of Honda's hybrid technology. The insight came to market in 1999.

Quote:
Honda sucht Insight-Pioniere

Hmmmmmmmmmm,

I wonder why the chosen Insight owner gets a Civic and not his choice?

I wonder if it's a sign that the Insight is soon to be discontinued?

Owner of 'Eeyore', a 2004 Prius. Only took 2 days from start of search to delivery.

8 years of ownership, 115,000 miles, about 40 MPG average at present.

Hi,

I have no other information. Maybe you should give Honda Public relations a call?

Here is how much Insight owners love their hybrids...

this is an old offer. Honda UK, I want to say about a year ago, sent out this message and turned up a high km Insight and the owner insisted he would only settle for another Insight.

I love my little silver surfer! One of the reasons I bought the Insight over the Civic was the cool look of the car! That and the fact that I drive myself to work and back and have no need for a back seat or trunk. If they made the S2000 in a hybrid config, then maybe I'd consider a trade!

160,000 km is not alot, I would think they would be looking for someone with over 300,000 km.
My Insight has over 150,000 km and that includes over 2,500 km of time trial competition driving on race tracks!
Sure I would trade it for a brand new civic hybrid. That way I can sell it and buy another used Insight and still have lots of cash left over

Those are some fascinating stats. And some MAD mileage on the 00 insight. What's the secret to the extreme high mileage of that machine relative to the others?

With the 5 speed Insight, you can force the car to shut the engine off more easily (by just moving the shifter in between gears,) than the auto/CVT. And other 'extreme gas saver' tecniques become more easy as well.

I find it incredible that the '01 Prius has better lifetime mileage than the '04! (The '06 hasn't gone through its break-in period yet, so that makes sense.)
