Exclamation Engine Backfire, Check-Engine, Gas Engine Failure

Hello everyone,

I have a 2013 Prius V, 143000km. Last week, while driving I heard a small explosion kind of sound (I guess the engine backfiered). Shortly after the gas engine stoped and I was able to run on the electric engine until the batterie was completely empty.

Brought it to the dealer and codes P0101 P0171 P3190 P0A0F came on.

They found our that a couple of tubes under the inteake mainfold were disconected. They said that it was due to the air pressure in the engine being 3 times higher then normal.

They couldn't figure out the exact cause of the high pressure.

They checked the oil and when they saw that the oil was a little dark (I was about to change it during the same week - it had under 8000km) they said that a bad oil change could be a cause (I didn't do it at the Toyota dealer) and that they suggest to do it to eliminate that as a potential problem... so they did, replaced the tubes, reset the codes, recharged the battery and the car was up and running again.

Untill yesterday, when I had the exact same problem!

Can you help me out on this, as I can't trust the oil changing toyota dealer anymore...

Many thanks!!

There is technical service bulletin the should take care of your concern (t-sb-0041-15). It includes replacing the pcv vacuum switching valve and then reflashing the ecm. I can't believe the dealer didn't know this. Depending which state you're from, it may be covered by an emissions warranty

The worst part is that it is the 3rd Toyota dealer I am bringing it to with the same problem... I will definitly make a complaint to Toyota Canada corp.

Do you know where I can get a copy of that technical service bulletin?

Thank you so much !

Section Engine Control Market USA Since I work at a Toyota dealer, I have access to their information. I'm pretty sure it's not confidential but I tried a couple of free search engines and was unable to locate it. Possibly an independent garage that subscribes to "All Data " may be able to locate it? I'm sure if you copy the header on this reply and either called or went to a dealer, they would help you. Also, I noticed that you mentioned "Toyota Canada Corp." I'm in California and work in the "Toyota Motor Corp, USA" system. There may be a difference in the cars due to different emission requirements? I've fixed this concern several times but they were USA cars. Hopefully, this may help you. Good luck.
