Hey, you guys really have high thoughts about sweden as a country with equal rights for everyone and free health care. Sorry to say, that sweden is gone. We donīt have the best schools, hospitals or anything else anymore. The health care still offers same for everyone, you pay 25$/visit, no matter if itīs a cold or a complete heart haul over. You donīt need private insurance to be entitled to health care. The clean environment and beautiful girls still her though. The government havenīt been able to f**k that up, yet!

By the way, a Hummer h2 costs about 100 000$ here, and a prius 32 000$.

You have no idea how good you have it. First we have 40-45M people with NO health insurance. Then we have many retirees who were promised health insurance for free or minimal premiuns who had it taken away and are spending so much on health care that they divide the meds the Dr prescribed in half, and must go to a subsidized senior center for a hot meal. No one will even sell them insurance now, even if they could afford it, because they are old, bad risks, and have "prior conditions".

$25. for heart surgery ? Try having to sell your house, car, all assets from a lifetime of work & going bankrupt because one serious illness or surgery can easily take EVERYTHING you have.

The particulate matter, and air, are so foul in many places that we have an epidemic of asthma in children & the elderly. And the answer of OUR govt is to make our clean air regulations looser and easier for corporations to avoid.

We pay 2 times the price for a prescription drug than they do in Canada or most of Europe for the exact same medicine from the exact same co. and the answer from our govt is to propose a law to make it illegal for Americans to buy from Canada or European countries when they go on the internet or take a bus there for the cheaper price...with American drug comp. often making profit margins over 20%.

We are the richest country in the world, but the wealth & income is so scewed to the top end that we have rampant poverty, children who dont get enough to eat, and in many places our education standings are equal to third world nations. The answer of OUR govt was to give a tax cut where 80% of the cut went to the wealthiest people.

Be thankful for the Swedish model, even if you have seen some regression.

Now how did we get HERE from a Prius discussion ?? Oh, thanks for the prices on the H2 & Prius, much more expensive there. Dont know about the H2 (60-70K$ here ??) but a well equipped P (no NAV, std radio) is about $25K here.

But then again we have the best medical system in the world.
We have available to us the finest in the way of prescription drugs that actually prevent probably 80 % of surgery and they are constantly being updated.
We used to have a government that almost made it a moral obligation for employers to furnish adequate medical plans for their employees and gave them tax encentives to do so. (Don't know in what administration it was all lost with de-regulation and the ability of the world cheap labor to undermine the US companies which have historically provided same. Let me name a few like the US auto industry and The best Air Line system in the world)
If you want to change this to a government controlled socialized system like Sweden, France, and Canada good luck to you!
Nothing personal here. I love to visit Sweden but I just wouldn't care to live there. (Without the subsidy of course)
There seem to be an awfull lot of people today who want to "be given"
We've attempted to offer one of the best educational free systems of learning in the world. If a great portion of our citizenry choose to not take advantage of it, so be all the ill's that ignorance provides. An awfall lot of immigrants to this country take advantage of the system and excell
and you all know who they are. An awful lot of immigrants just skip it and rely upon government and political hand-outs.
Drive by your local schools at the final bell and check out the attire worn by the students. Now imagine the parents who let them attend school in that attire. Three strikes against them and they will be doing little in their life other than expect the government to take care of them. Burger King will have no shortage of employees.
We'll be blaming the next generation for a lot of our ills and the present generation for starting them.
Personally, you can achieve anything you wish in this country and very few others offer you that opportunity. Everything does not need to be a "hand-out."
Just remember, all those "nutcakes on the other side of the world who are blowing themselves up and taking a dozen other people with them are striving to get to a place like the United States with of course 12 virgins thrown in!

Have a Happy and Safe "Fourth" everyone, and please remember what we are celebrating !

Gosh, now I feel bad for making this thread going way out of line. Maybe we should start a different thread for political discussion? Or, maybe not.... I pardon for any offfence taken.

Absolutely no offense taken of any kind. The internet is great for finding info not otherwise available in this large world. The threads seem to work their way around to dozens of subjects and hopefully each more interesting than the original. Dial up "E" bay and go to "Hummer" to see what all the noise is about. A couple surplus hit the streets several years ago, brought tremendous prices and GM decided to throw some amenities into some and put them on the civilian market, We had something called a "Jeep" that did pretty well. Like other ex-military vehicles the Hummers" didn't do to well on the milage figures but what the heck, when they appeared Gas was a buck twenty five a gallon. They have developed a following just as the Prius but much less in numbers because of the price. You will find several on "E" bay used above $100,000.
Because they are at the opposite end of the spectrum from the Prius have become a "target" on this site. They "are what they are" and they are made in America. They do seem to be the vehicle of "choice" in Iraq where there is no shortage of gas as long as you can rely on Halliburton.

Back to the subject. I must say, I'm always shocked when I see a Hummer, especially in Boulder, Colorado, near where I live. Just because we are a free country, doesn't need we have to be anti-social or anti-environmental for that matter.

Back to the devil advocate thing. What's anti social about driving a Hummer made in America that meets the Califotnia enviremental codes which are not required in at least forty other states. (probably Colorado)
The "ego" thing doesn't "wash" as you could very well say, driving a Prius is an "ego" thing.

Meeting pollution standards says nothing with respect to the amount of greenhouse gases that the Hummer creates. If you don't think greenhouse gases are a problem, then it is understandable that you wouldn't think the Hummer is a problem. I don't really give a **** whether people are buying the Prius for ego; the result is the same. The environment usually wins, assuming they're not increasing their miles driven to cancel out the increased mpg.
