I own a 2001 Prius with 125,000 miles on it. Had absolutely no problems until recently. When I take a sharp turn for extended period such as a 30 mph Interstate exit loop, my power steering fails. I get a big red PS failure light on my MFD. Any idea what the issue is and whether its a relatively easy fix or not...?

You might want to search the archives for this failure, but I don't recall any reports of power steering loss over the years...

I have a 2002, so please advise what you find out at the dealer.

Hey, nitewolfgtr & Pheonix,

There was an extended warranty on the steering racks of the "Classics" [2001 & 2002 (but not the 2003?)]. It lasted for only 5 years (but unlimited miles within the 5 years). Use this link & check out the posts by mrv (Michelle) on Aug 8th, 2006 viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8775&p=79821&hilit=steering+rack#p79821 or see more comments/problems by doing the search (like I did) for "steering rack". On some cars the steering would shudder or oscillate or even turn to full lock "twisting your wrist at the same time" as SiJ2000 wrote on Jan 4th, 2007.

I forgot about that recall. We had that done for free, but we had experienced no problems.
