Default 2008 Prius Master Caution & Hybrid System Warning

I have a 2008 Prius w/NAV and backup camera option. Last night I was driving it on the interstate and the red triangle came on and "Service Engine" icon came on. Also the hybrid system warning popped up in my touchscreen. I pulled over and pulled out my owner's manual. The hybrid system warning means you need to call the dealer. No unusual symptoms were apparent and it drove fine. So after letting it sit for about 10 minutes I drove it back home (45 miles). It never stalled or lost power. So I got online and did some research. I found out after reading up on LG (lusciousgaragedotcom) that it was the Inverter Water Pump ( part # G9020-47031).

I decided to call up the dealer and found out my 2008 Prius had 2 outstanding recalls. And Found out the Inverter Water Pump is one of them! I have 199359 miles in it with the original hybrid and auxiliary batteries! It also has the original drive belt! Original water pump.

I'm thinking the bathtub curve is on the way up. Time for some parts to break down. Hopefully not all at once. I'd like to get another 100k.

Default Follow-up after repairs today

I brought my 2008 Prius to the Huntsville AL dealership today and it is supposedly repaired. The funny thing is I called the parts department prior to talking to the service department and the guy told me the inverter water pump was not in stock and it would be a special order item. Now that ain't even funny! What's going on here! The parts guy told me if I prepaid for the part today before 2:30 Central time it would come in by Monday next week. I should have marked the old part first to make sure it was replaced. I'll get to the bottom of this tomorrow when I pick it up. I'll follow-up with another post.

If the inverter water pump was not in stock then they may have just bled the air of the the inverter. The old water pumps would let air in to the system as they aged. I am really surprised they would not have the new replacements in stock. This problem showed up in the 2004 Prius as it aged. Lots of cars out there that needed the TSB done.

If they just bled the system you will probably be back again with the same problem until the pump is replaced.
