Maint. required light...Question about the interval reset...

I changed my oil at a bit over 4500 miles right after the reminder light came on the first time. I did a reset on the light at that time. Well, I now have 9980 miles and the reminder never came back on. It lights OK during the dash light power-up, so I know it works. Well, I changed my oil again today and now I need to reset the interval again, even though it wasn't on at all. So, can I reset without it being on? Any ideas why it didn't turn on again this time?

Yes, you can reset it, and that will start the mileage clock from this point.
The indicator doesn't come on until 4500 miles from last reset, at which point it will start blinking for a few seconds upon startup, then turn off.
At 5000 miles from reset, it will remain on.

So if you hadn't reached those miles yet, no indicator will show.
If you were playing with the ODO button, such as trying to disable the seatbelt or reverse buzzer, you can accidentally reset the oil change reminder.

Looking at the mileage posted, it does look like it should have come on. I have had the same thing in my Sienna. After one particular oil change, the light never came back on (either blinking at 4500 or constant at 5000). It also lights when you start the car like it is supposed to like yours does. I have no idea what caused it but I always time my changes right around an even multiple of 5000 miles so I haven't worried about it.
