Hi all,
It happens again and again. The beep, red triangle and auto level symbol on the screen. I took it to the dealer and he could not get the error to happen, no error codes either. He said to bring it in when it happens so he can THEN PUT THE SCANTOOL on to see what's causing the problem. I was driving home from the dealer and it came on three times and then went off before I could get back to the dealer. Went on a trip to NY and it was so annoying I had to keep the radio volume turned up. Did the same thing returning home.
Full tank gas, luggage, blinking gas light,no luggage ,one passenger no matter what,it beeps, red triangle, auto level symbol, really getting on my nerves
My questions are: Is this an error the scantool doesn't log?
Was the dealer correct, error on,then use scantool?
Thanks,
Norm
Only one DTC dealing with lights, and you would only find it in Canada:
B1244
Malfunction in automatic light control sensor
Open or short in automatic light control sensor circuit
Automatic light control sensor
Harness or connector
Multiplex network body ECU
Really silly if you ask me, but then the light leveler ECU has no network communications to report anything. But then how would the MFD know about it?
Correction, it is the dash that shows the error. The leveler ECU has one signal line to report the problem to the combination meter, but it is just an idiot indicator.
The leveler can be initialized, maybe that's what needs to be done. Page 5-1674 of repair manual.
If pin 8 of the DLCIII is connected to ground (pin 3), and the headlamps are flashed more than 3 times in 20 seconds with a 1 second interval, the indicator should disappear. It will appear for a short time if it isn't already lit and then go off. Be sure the car is level with no load (no passengers in the car) before doing this. also suggests fuel guage show 2 bars. Lamps may need aiming once this is done.
I'm sure what Norm would like (as would I with the intermittent problem that can't seem to be fixed by Toyota) would be the disabling of the constant "beeping" If I were caught away on a trip I would sure think of an "ax"
I've often thought "how nice it would be to find one easily got to fuse labeled "BEEPER" (I wonder if there would be any installed by the end of six months ownership?)
I believe there are 2 to 3. One is the combination meter, another is the MFD through the radio/amp, and one under the engine room junction/fuse box. The last one might only be there for SKS.
I had this same headlight leveling error 2 weeks ago. I took it into the dealer and they said the highest sensor control level was out of range. They ordered a new sensor, which hasn't come in yet. The error also stopped last week for no apparent reason.
