Default all season tires

is anyone familiar with the Pirelli P5 Cinturato? I am contemplating putting them on my 2007 Prius and was wondering how they perform, particularly from a fuel efficiency perspective.

thanks for your feedback

i don't know how that tire will work on your prius, but mercedes uses pirellis alot and they seem to develop all sorts of problems before they wear out. customers are always complaining about vibrations; we have a computerized tire balancer that will do a "road force " test, and pirellis seem to fail frequently. the short answer is, i wouldn't put pirellis on a wheel barrow. may be good for racing, but over time they suck.

thanks for your input. that seems to be the consensus - others have warned me about the road noise.

Nokian WR have been popular all-season tires on Prius.

Pirelli's came as original tires on an Rx7 we had in the last century, and they provided good service for many miles and years. At about 30,000 miles, one developed a small bulge in the sidewall that I thought was cosmetic; and I ran it until bald (at around 65,000 miles). However, with our recent experience with blowouts on our old pickup and Airstream travel trailer; today, I would replace that tire. It should be noted that we never had to rebalance any of the original Pirelli's, and they ran smoothly until replaced.

The Michelins that I replace them with provided even better performance and longevity. Although, our single experience with Pirelli's was satisfactory, I would definitely consider Michelins.

In general, minor sidewall indentations are supposed to be ignorable, but sidewall bulges should be inspected by dismounting the tire.

Hi, all,

Back in the mid 70's when I was at a Goodyear tire dealer getting my mail order, non-Goodyear, antique car tires mounted on my 1950 Buick Roadmaster, a guy came in with 4 brand new, still wrapped, mail order (no internet on-line orders back then), Pirelli tires. The Goodyear dealer unwrapped them & refused to mount them for the customer. 3 of the 4 of them had very obvious & serious CONSTRUCTION defects (NOT shipping damage). The tire dealer advised the customer to send them back & if he chose to re-order, that he unwrap the tires immediately while the freight shipper was still there, so he could refuse & return them right away again if need be. They said they had been seeing a lot of bad passenger Pirelli tires back then, but that the Pirelli racing tires still seemed O.K.

I know it was years ago, but I still thought I would share the story.
