Default Stalling

Is it just me????

13 cars out of 34,200 have a small programming problem. That's .0003801

The media must be bored and not have enough of other things to cover.

lionking, no big deal and the subject is very important. The numbers are very small unless the subject is yourself and you are being ignored by Toyota. Then, you hope your friend is Bill O'Reilly.

It's just you.

There are far more than 13 cars that have had this problem... most people never report it to the NHTSA because most people don't take the time to do it I guess...

I had the same issue, and I know if you look thru these forums and the PC forums, and the edmunds forums you'll probably find at least 50 or 60 reported issues... and I'm probably being generous there.

There were at least 2 glitches that could kill the Prius. One was an improperly sealed connector which allowed condensation to form inside and cause a massive malfunction. That was what I had. There was no recovery from this except to have Toyota replace the parts involved.

Toyota did know this was a problem because they changed the way they were sealing connectors. The tech that I spoke to also told me that this was a not uncommon problem. Toyota never officially admitted it tho.

This newest problem seems to be a software glitch which can be cleared up by a wait and restart. I haven't had that one yet, and hopefully I won't.

Toyota has probably known about these issues for quite a while. It's just now that they're getting some negative publicity that they're "looking into it".

Shame on Toyota really... There was a recall on my last car, a Volkswagen Jetta. The recall was on a brakelight switch that could malfunction, causing the brakes to not light when you were stopping. VW decided that was a safety issue large enough to warrant a recall. They took a PR hit on it, but decided that it was worth it, rather than the PR hit from someone who died in a collision because their brake lights weren't working.

Toyota had the exact same issue... but they put out a TSB rather than a recall. SAME issue, different approaches. And I don't think the Toyota way was the right way.

You are incorrect. Toyota did issue SSC 40L for the brake switch in 2004 Prius and RX330s. The recall can be found on the NHTSA site, and yes letters were sent to owners. NOT a TSB. It did affect another 10 Toyota models, but those others aren't sold in the US.

My apologies then... I didn't realize it was full out recall.
