You'd fit through the window? If I did so there would be a recall for both the Toyota and me.

Don't put off till tomorrow what you can do today.

Actually, if the car is off, and you turn the headlight switch from off to on, the lights come on, even though the car is off.

For instance, try this procedure...
1) With headlights on, turn off the car
2) Open the driver's door and the lights turn off.
3) Turn the headlight switch to the off position.
4) Turn the headlight switch to the on position and the headlights (and tail lights) will turn on.

Yes, and again that's one way that some get into trouble. And I believe that is what I was targetting in what you quoted. Without this feature, one could not have their lights on without the vehicle powered on, as opposed to automatically shutting all exterior lights down on power off.

Default lights turned off via auto-off, but switch still on -- parasitic drain on 12v?

Reviving an old thread...

Have done a lot of reading this morning trying to resolve a battery issue with my 2008 Prius (now resolved). I am curious about one question regarding the auto-off feature, however: does anyone know if the headlights when in the "on" state but turned off by the auto-off feature draw on the 12v battery at all? I would assume there is a small draw from the 12v battery as long as the headlight switch is in the "on" position even when the lights are off (after having been turned off by the auto-off feature), but perhaps I am wrong. I had a weird parasitic draw (bluetooth related) in my 2008 Acura earlier last year, so I am always suspicious of things that appear off that are not actually totally off.

To be totally clear on the state I am wondering about:
1/ I park the car with the headlights on.
2/ I turn the car off.
3/ I open the driver's door.
4/ The headlights are now off.
5/ I lock the car and walk away.
6/ The headlights are still switched to the "on" position -- do we think this creates any draw on the battery even though the lights are off?

Thanks for the help!
