Re: The annoying reverse beep
Hi again, Don,
I'm sorry if I can't be as helpful for this post as I may have been for your other question under "Prius key replacement" also in this Q & A category/topic. I think you have to go to the dealer to have the reverse beeper turned off through the customizable settings (somebody please correct me if there is a do-it-yourself way to do it similar to the fob programming dance described in Q & A's "Prius key replacement"). Be aware that if your 12V battery dies or is disconnected, the beeper will have to be re-silenced again.
Personally, Don, even though a lot of owners have the beeper silenced, I prefer to hear the warning in case I click "D" too fast for it to take & the transmission is still in reverse. It's saved me a couple of times from having accidents when I swore I had gone into Drive & was ready to step on the gas but heard the reverse beeper warning me otherwise. If I were you, even though it annoys you, I would wait for a while (before having the beeper turned off) until you've gotten used to some of the quirks of the car to see if the beeper ever saves you in a likewise manner. You may change you mind about having it silenced [especially if you have to pay a lot to have the dealer do it (& your 4-yr old 12V battery may need to be replaced soon---requiring paying the dealer to turn it off again as well as re-setting any "auto-power-up" windows)].
As far as silencing the beeper when you "have to pause for a few seconds" when backing, you could just move the shift selector to "N" & then back into "R" when continuing to back up. I think I was more help in your other post.
