Default Rear Hatch Latch Problem

My 2006 rear hatch latch is not behaving! Operation of the catch will result in the catch solenoid operating, but the lid only releases a little. The mechanical part of the latch is still holding the lid shut..a bit like being able to release the bonnet by operation of the bonnet release lever in the passenger compartment but unable to release the catch that allows you to lift the bonnet up. The handbook directs you to a lever on the inside of the rear hatch behind a cover which I am able to operate..but this simply replicates the operation of the release solenoid, with the hatch still machanically captivated. Does anyone have any ideas how to fully release?

If you were able to get it open, I would suggest some light grease on the metal u-bolt attached to the tailgate. I wonder if something very small slipped into the locking mechanism the last time you closed the tailgate. Perhaps this is going to require a trip to the service department at your dealer. I assume you have tried having someone pull up on the tailgate while you work the release lever. It might take a bit of muscle. I also have an '06 and haven't experienced the problem. Good luck.

My 2004 is doing the same thing about one out of four times, it doesn't fully release. I just have to keep squeezing the release and eventually it lets go. I've been meaning to attack it with some lube, but haven't gotten to it yet.
