Not in a UK Prius 07 TSpirit they don't.

Main lights on - power off car - Lights go to side lights only.
Open drivers door - beeper sounds to let you know you've still got the lights on.

Now this has always got me - even on previous cars - surely a relay is no more expensive than a beeper. Replace said beeper for a **** relay to turn the lights off, a handful of passives and Robert is almost certainly your mothers brother.

Maybe there's some UK legislation that says we can't have our cake and eat it.

Cliff.

The reason is, you may have a reason to have your lights on. The beeper is to remind you in case you didn't intend to have the lights on.

In ours, if the headlights didn't go to auto-off, then we get the beep.

Hey Cliff,

it sounds like you had the side markers on and not the full headlights? (if I read it correctly when you said "lights go to side lights only")

No - this is with the Main headlights on.

Main head lights are on, pull up and stop the car.
Yes I could physically switch the headlights off at that point, but when you power off the car, the main headlights do go off, but the side lights stay on; just as though I'd turned the dial round to the middle position to keep the side lights on. Then open the drivers door, and the beeper sounds.

All I was saying was surely it's make more sense to have the car switch the lights off all the way for you; and if you wanted them on side lights only switch that back on after. You're more likely to want the lights turned off more offen than have them stay on IMHO.

That is really odd! It should turn off ALL the lights. Have it checked?

Default 2007 auto shut off

I have a 2007 Prius. I bought it used in 2009. I like the car, but it will NOT automatically shut the headlights off UNLESS you open the drivers door. I run my car with the headlights on at all times so other drivers can see me coming. You can see headlights before you see the car. There have been times I have went to the shopping center with my wife. She is a passenger, and gets out on the passenger side. If I stay in the car to snooze while she does her "roaming around", and I forget to open the drivers door to shut the lights off, the lights will stay on and start draining the battery. There is no warning sound, but there is an icon on the dash (if you see it). There have been a couple times I wound up with a dead battery. Eventually, I had to replace that battery with a new one (the yellowtop Optima). I do not understand why Toyota could not have put a delay timer on it that would shut the headlights off after 90 seconds to 2 minutes, or turn the lights off when you shut the power off. That would save a lot of frustration. My 2000 Buick did that, so by 2007 Toyota should have figured out a way to do it to all their cars. Does anyone know of a way the Prius headlights will automatically shut off when you power the car down?
