Good afternoon,
My 2007 prius has 308k on it and I finally had to put a newer engine and tranny in it..I picked it up today and after putting about 12 miles on it - the car completely shut down - as if I had turned it to off. I coasted into a parking lot and could not restart..The 12 volt system seemed to have plenty of juice and even after jumping (safely of course) I could not get my prius to turn anything on related to the ignition or accessory. I can turn on lights - the remote will lock and unlock doors and the vehicle seems to recognize the key when inserted. But thats it... I am guessing something is blocking power to the ignition system...was hoping for ideas to start trouble shooting. Relays, ECM BCM? Anyone ever have this before... Before I replaced the engine and tranny - this never happened before... So I assume they are related to putting everything back together..but I also realize it can be something completely unrelated. It will not even power code reader so I cannot see if any codes are present. Any Ideas?? Please help.. Thank you in advance for any guidance! Kelly

Wanted to give an update to anyone who may encounter this problem..It turned out that I blew the AM2 fuse while I was driving the car and that shut down everything... We traced it back to a faulty Inverter water pump... If you search Prius AM2 fuse there are tons of threads about that and the pump...Anyway - replaced it with new pump and so far so good..Hope this helps anyone in the future..BTW this pump is located above the driver side front fender and usually before it goes out completely, it will start to make a rattling or vibration noise..We heard that when we put the new motor and tranny in but assumed it had a little more time left...

Last year in September my 2008 Prius also shut down when driving on a highway at 80 mph [in the Netherlands]. I coasted to a stop on the emergency lane. All electra was working. But the gear shift could be put only in Neutral or Park. That is: I could move to R or D but nothing changed on the display, it remained in P or N.
I called the Toyota help line who said they would send a truck to haul me.
But after a quarter of an hour we tried again and everything functioned normally ever since. Our Toyota garage could not find anything in the car's log, which apparently can be read out. The Dutch Prius forum also gave no explanation,
Anyone recognize this???
