I just picked up my #2 yesterday. I drove a touring edition and could find no difference other than the GPS that mattered. The dealer gave me a Tom Tom so there you go. Prior to buying the Prius 2 I drove a Civic EX-l and found the engine to be quite buzzy. The Si edition was not buzzy but the reduction in fuel economy took my right back to the Toyota dealer. The Prius rode and handled better to me than the Civic. The gas mileage and smoother ride sold me.

Hi,

I'm from Germany so I have no experience with the american Prius models.

Just reading about the touring-package on toyota.com I can't see, why there should be any difference in mileage. The power-systems remained the same, didn't it? So is it just the bigger tyres?

I'm driving a european "Sol"-Prius and here 15-inch-tyres are not even allowed, as we have disc-brakes front and rear.

BTW. the american models are much cheaper than the german. (Prius SOL 25.600EUR -> 39.000USD)

Live in North Fort Myers and bought a 2008 Touring Model last September. We certainly think the Touring Model is well worth it, as the 16" Touring Tires provide great stability, and lighting package is awesome. Traded in a 2006 Standard Prius with 44,000 miles and loved it, but wanted a Touring Model. Bought ours in North Palm Beach from Earl Stewart Toyota. Great Internet folks to deal with and no administrative charges, just sales tax out the door. They may also discount off MSRP price, but if they won't, they threw in free, front/rear floor mats, tinted windows, and rear bumper protection cover. Great young salesperson Michael Lloyd, 561-844-3461. Enjoy!!!

I have the 2007 touring (bought it right as the 2008 was coming out so got a decent deal. I definitely enjoy the car -- except for the built in GPS. I find the controls non-intuitive and its display confusing. It seems determined to send me down every backwater road even if I'm right next to the highway on ramp. My wife has a Garmin street pilot for her car and I like it much better. Simple to use and accurate. Overall, I'd say your'e better off with the Tom Tom. However, love everything else about my Touring - especially the money I save at the pump.

Well, thanks for all the responses - we ended up ordering a Red Touring #6. Got it from the commercial dept. and they gave us a really good price. Have to wait a week, but getting exactly what I want and was not able to beat the price even if I traveled! I checked prices all over the state. Can't wait!
